Photography & Transcen-dance

Untethered: unbound, unfettered, liberated, free. The ego is deeply fascinating. Our human selves, the selves that are created through our experiences, can and should be periodically detached from. To exist in a space where anything we 'know' just melts away, is to feel something pure and powerful.

This project's working name is 'Untethered', inspired by many influences, including the latest: "The Untethered Soul"

Dance, in this case, is the perfect embodiment of this idea of transcendence. Unposed photography allows for a release in the part of the mind that works to control or manipulate situations. In place, the creation of a photo that is unchoreographed (no pun intended), and unreplicable is made possible.

In this style of shooting, I myself get to dance and transcend the logical mind, go into a meditative state, and come back with a tangible result. So in a sense, the subject is both the transcendence of the dancer, and the photographer herself. The relationship between the two seems worth exploring.

Here are some working images for the first round of from this project. If you'd like to see what I learned from this session, click the link at the end of this post.
