During the pandemic, we moved from the city to the suburbs, and I finally got to convert the garage into a studio—a longtime dream of mine. I’ve always wanted a space where I could make a mess and simply close the door when I’m completely exhausted.
My approach to portraits is a particular blend of posing, direction, and discovering what works in the moment. Most importantly, I focus on coaxing natural expressions by encouraging movement and flow.
My ideal client is someone open to the unexpected, flexible with their expectations (especially about getting a very specific photo), and not overly self-critical about their appearance—even though I know that’s difficult, even for myself.
This last part matters because my own perfectionism can be triggered by that of others, which can create tension and stiffness for both of us. I want my sessions to be fun—after all, what’s the point if the creative process isn’t an experience in itself?
